Abstract: A bi-directional connection establishing/releasing method in a label switching network is provided to meet the demand that a bi-directional connection should be established or released through an independent path, not the same path, even according to a request from one client. When the first LER(Label Edge Router) receives a setup request message from a client, it transfers the first setup message for establishing the first path to the second LER by way of at least one LSR(Label Switching Router). The second LER includes connection information of the first setup message in the first connection message for connection configuration of the first path and label allocation and transfers it to the first LER by way of the LSR. When a connection mode of the first setup message corresponds to the first path of bi-directional connection on an independent path, the second LER transfers the second setup message for establishing the second path to the first LER by way of the at least one LSR.
