    Abstract: PURPOSE: A microorganism, Sphingomonas sp. US6-1, for biodecomposition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and a method for biologically decomposing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons using the same are provided, thereby easily purifying environmental pollution caused by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon within a short time. CONSTITUTION: The microorganism, Sphingomonas sp. US6-1(KCTC 10454BP), for biodecomposition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon is provided, wherein Sphingomonas sp. US6-1 is isolated from the coast soil. The method for biologically decomposing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon comprises the steps of: (a) inoculating Sphingomonas sp. US6-1(KCTC 10454BP) into a sample containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon; and (b) culturing the Sphingomonas sp. US6-1(KCTC 10454BP) at 30 to 37 deg. C and pH 5.5 to 6.5, wherein the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon is selected from fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, crysene, benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(a)anthracene and dibenzoanthracene, benzo(a)pyrene and perylene; 0.1 to 20%(w/v) of beta-cyclodextrin may be further added to the sample in the step (a); and dextrin and tween compounds may be further added to the sample in the step (a).
