Abstract: Methylpyrazine of formula (III) are prepared by the catalytic reaction of propylene glycol of formula (I) and ethylene diamine of formula (II) in the stream of hydrogen and/or nitrogen. The used catatyst is pref. copper-chromite and/or zinc-chromite catalyst. The reaction temp. in the Zn-chromite catalyst is pref. 320-450 deg.C and the reaction temp. in the Cu-chromite catalyst is pref. 300-400 deg.C.
