    Abstract: PURPOSE: A process for preparing a dihydroxylated aromatic compound by preparing hydrogen peroxide directly from oxygen and hydrogen using a new two-component heterogeneous catalyst or by use of excellent oxidation activity of the catalyst to a hydroxylated aromatic compound is provided, which produces the title compound in high conversion rate and selectivity. The process avoids use of expensive hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. CONSTITUTION: In a process for manufacturing a dihydroxylated aromatic compound by oxidation of an aromatic hydrocarbon compound, the oxidation reaction is carried out by using a two-component heterogeneous catalyst comprising a Group VIII B transition metals (A) supported porous molecular sieve catalyst and a porous molecular sieve catalyst containing a transition metal (B) selected from Fe, Sn, Mn and Os or a transition metal complex (C) selected from Fe, Sn, Mn and Os and introducing hydrogen and oxygen at -10 to 80deg.C at normal pressures.
