Abstract: PURPOSE: To mold a sterolithographic part quickly without sacrifice of accuracy by providing a shutter disposed along an optical path while intersecting a beam and blocking passage of the beam selectively in the surface region of an object not to be converted. CONSTITUTION: A system for building a three-dimensional object, especially a large or complex part, quickly and accurately by stereolithography employs a more powerful laser 11 and a high speed dynamic mirror 15 in order to generate a beam for hardening a polymerizable substance and to write a pattern thereon. A controllable shutter 20 is disposed on the optical path of laser beam in order to block irradiation of a selected surface region of the substance with laser beam. It is performed through an appropriate feedback loop for positioning the dynamic mirror 15 accurately based on a known shift from a desired position.
