Abstract: Various embodiments of a respirator (10) that includes a harness (13, 16), a mask body (12), and an exhalation valve (14) are disclosed. The exhalation valve (14) can include a valve seat (20) and a flexible flap (22) that is in engagement with the valve seat. The flexible flap can have one or more materials that can cause the flap to flash (26) when moving from a closed position to an open position or vice versa. The flashing valve can make it easier for a user to ascertain whether the valve is operating properly.

Abstract: Heterogeneous catalyst systems, methods of making these systems, and methods of using these systems, wherein catalytically active gold is deposited onto composite support media. The composite support media is formed by providing nanoporous material on at least a portion of the surfaces of carbonaceous host material. In representative embodiments, relatively fine, nanoporous guest particles are coated or otherwise provided on surfaces of relatively coarser activated carbon particles. Catalytically active gold may be deposited onto one or both of the guest or host materials either before or after the guest and host materials are combined to from the composite host material. PVD is the preferred catalyst system of depositing gold.

The activating support media are composite particles derived from ingredients comprising fine nanoporous particles with a size less than 100 µm and coarse particles with a size greater than 590 µm and wherein the composite particles comprise gold clusters with cluster dimensions 0.5-50 µm deposited onto the said fine particle.
