Abstract: Described herein are fluoropolymer compositions comprising a compound of Formula (I) wherein X1 is selected from O or S; L is a divalent linking group comprising at least one aromatic ring; O and X2 comprises a carbon-carbon double bond. In one embodiment, the phthalonitrile-containing compound is added to a composition comprising (i) a fluorinated elastomeric gum, wherein the fluorinated elastomeric gum comprises a fluoropolymer having a cure-site and (ii) a peroxide curing system.

Abstract: The composition includes an amorphous fluoropolymer having at least one of bromo- or iodo-cure sites, benzoyl peroxide, and a crosslinker comprising more than one carbon-carbon double bond. Benzoyl peroxide is present in an amount of three to four parts per hundred parts of fluoropolymer in the composition, and the benzoyl peroxide is present in an amount greater than or equal to that of the crosslinker. An article made from the composition and a method of making a fluoroelastomer are also disclosed.

In one embodiment, the phthalonitrile-containing compound is used to crosslink a dehydrohalogenated polymer, and optionally with a polyhydroxy curative. In another embodiment, the phthalonitrile-containing compound is added to a composition comprising (i) a fluorinated elastomeric gum, wherein the fluorinated elastomeric gum comprises a fluoropolymer having a cure-site and (ii) a peroxide curing system.

Abstract: The process includes providing an aqueous mixture including perfluorinated monomers, a fluoroalkyl sulfinic acid or salt thereof, and an oxidizing agent capable of oxidizing the fluoroalkyl sulfinic acid or salt thereof and polymerizing the perfluorinated Nmonomers under free radical conditions to provide an aqueous dispersion of the fluoropolymer. The fluoroalkyl group has from one to three carbon atoms. The amount of perfluorooctanoic acid or salt thereof in the aqueous dispersion of the fluoropolymer as polymerized is not more than 25 nanograms per gram of the fluoropolymer. A fluoropolymer made by the process is also described.
