Abstract:
Various embodiments disclosed relate to shaped abrasive particles having sharp tips, methods of making the shaped abrasive particles, methods of abrading a substrate with the shaped abrasive particles, and coated abrasive articles including the shaped abrasive particles. The shaped abrasive particle includes a ceramic, has a polygonal cross-sectional shape along a longitudinal axis of the shaped abrasive particle, and at least one tip of the shaped abrasive particle has a radius of curvature of less than or equal to about 19.2 microns.
Abstract:
A coated abrasive article comprises an abrasive layer secured to a backing. The abrasive layer comprises abrasive particles secured by at least one binder to a first major surface of the backing. A supersize is disposed on at least a portion of the abrasive layer. The coated abrasive article has a melt flow zone adjacent to an edge of the coated abrasive article, wherein the melt flow zone has a maximum width of less than 100 micrometers, and the melt flow zone has a maximum height of less than 40 micrometers. Methods of using infrared lasers to ablate coated abrasive articles are also disclosed, wherein a laser wavelength is matched to a component of the coated abrasive article.
Abstract:
A hand-held, manually-operated, sanding tool for use with a replaceable sheet-like abrasive material, such as sandpaper, includes a base member, a molded interface pad provided on the base member to define a working face against which the sheet-like abrasive material is arranged, and a retaining mechanism arranged to maintain the sheet-like abrasive material in operative relation with the interface pad. The base member is formed of a first material and the molded interface pad is formed of a second injection moldable material.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a curable composition comprising: a polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition having a complex viscosity at 25°C and 1 Hz frequency of at least about 4500 Pa-s; and abrasive particles partially or fully embedded in the polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin component. The disclosure also relates to cured compositions formed from such curable compositions, wherein the abrasive particles are partially or fully embedded in the cured composition. In addition, the disclosure relates to abrasive articles made from such cured compositions as well as methods for making abrasive articles.
Abstract:
A sheet-like abrasive article includes a resilient backing sheet having opposed major surfaces and a continuous abrasive sheet affixed to the backing sheet. The abrasive sheet includes an abrasive support layer with abrasive particles arranged thereon, thereby defining an abrasive surface. A sanding tool assembly including such a sheet-like abrasive article is also disclosed.
