Abstract: The provided articles and methods use a non-woven fibrous web containing 60-100 wt % of oxidized polyacrylonitrile fibers; and 0-40 wt % of reinforcing fibers having outer surfaces comprised of a polymer with a melting temperature of from 100° C. to 300° C. The non-woven fibrous web has an average bulk density of from 15 kg/m3 to 50 kg/m3, with the plurality of fibers substantially entangled along directions perpendicular to a major surface of the non-woven fibrous web. Optionally, the oxidized polyacrylonitrile fibers can have a crimped configuration. Advantageously, these articles can display a combination of low thermal conductivity, high tensile strength, and flame resistance.

Abstract: A nonwoven fiber assembly. The nonwoven fiber assembly includes a nonwoven fibrous web including a plurality of discontinuous fibers; and a nonwoven fabric at least partially surrounding the nonwoven fibrous web; the nonwoven fabric including a plurality of randomly-oriented fibers, the plurality of randomly-oriented fibers comprising: at least 60 wt % of oxidized polyacrylonitrile fibers; and from 0 to less than 40 wt % of reinforcing fibers having an outer surface comprised of a (co)polymer with a melting temperature of from 100° C. to 450° C.; and a fluoropolymer binder on the plurality of randomly-oriented fibers.

Abstract: A scrim is described comprising a plurality of fibers and a coating disposed on the scrim wherein the coating comprises a binder and a flame retardant additive. Abstract: Provided are aerodynamic articles and related methods that use an aerodynamic body with a microstructured surface thereon. The microstructured surface has a plurality of parallel primary ridges defining major capillary channels, and optionally a plurality of parallel secondary ridges having a height less than that of the primary ridges and extending between and generally parallel to the primary ridges. The optional secondary ridges at least partially define two or more minor capillary channels within each major capillary channel. The aerodynamic surface provides reduced drag and is capable providing a high degree of friction against shoe surfaces under oil and water contaminated conditions.

Abstract: A sound and heat insulating blanket is presented comprising: a) a first layer of fabric comprising first fibers; and b) a first sound barrier film comprising a first rubber; wherein the first layer of fabric and first sound barrier film are bound together through a first interpenetrated binding layer wherein the first rubber of the first sound barrier film is interpenetrated by the first fibers of the first layer of fabric; and optionally c) a second layer of fabric comprising second fibers; wherein the second layer of fabric and first sound barrier film are bound together through a second interpenetrated binding layer wherein the first cured composition of the first sound barrier film is interpenetrated by the second fibers of the second layer of fabric. Typically, the sound and heat insulating blanket comprises no adhesive binding the first and second layers of fabric and the sound barrier film.

Abstract: An assembly includes an enclosure including first and second regions spaced apart along a first direction, and a plurality of spaced apart acoustic baffles arranged along a second direction different from the first direction and disposed in the enclosure between the first and second regions. The plurality of spaced apart acoustic baffles includes adjacent first and second acoustic baffles. Each of the first and second acoustic baffles include an acoustically absorptive layer disposed on a sheet having a specific airflow resistance greater than 200 MKS Rayl. Abstract: Dimensionally-stable fibrous structures including ceramic-coated melt-blown nonwoven fibers made of a flame-retarding polymer and processes for producing such fire-resistant nonwoven fibrous structures. The melt-blown fibers include poly(phenylene sulfide) in an amount sufficient for the nonwoven fibrous structures to pass one or more fire-resistance test, e.g. UL 94 V0, FAR 25.853 (a), FAR 25.856 (a), and CA Title 19, without any halogenated flame-retardant additive, and have a ceramic coating. The melt-blown fibers are subjected to a controlled in-flight heat treatment at a temperature below a melting temperature of the poly(phenylene sulfide) immediately upon exiting from at least one orifice of a melt-blowing die, in order to impart dimensional stability to the fibers. The nonwoven fibrous structures including the in-flight heat-treated melt-blown fibers exhibit a Shrinkage less than a Shrinkage measured on a nonwoven fibrous structure including only fibers not subjected to the controlled in-flight heat treatment operation, generally less than 15%.
