Abstract:
A method for a light bulb or fixture to emit light and measure ambient light. The method includes driving solid state light sources, such as LEDs, in the bulb with a cyclical signal to repeatedly turn them off and on, where the light sources are turned off and on at a rate sufficient for the bulb to appear on. The method also includes measuring ambient light via a light sensor in or on the bulb during at least some times when the light sources are off, and outputting a signal related to the measured ambient light. In some cases the light sensor saturates when the solid state light sources are active and measures the ambient light level when the solid state light sources are not active. The ambient light level signal can be used to control when the light bulb is on and an intensity of light output by the bulb.
Abstract:
This disclosure is directed to techniques for performing image segmentation that include capturing an image of an illuminated object, and applying an object region identification algorithm to a difference image based on the image of the illuminated object. In one example, a method includes receiving, by a computing device, a first image of an environment; receiving, by the computing device, a second image of the environment, wherein the second image includes an object not present in the first image of the environment; generating, by the computing device, a difference image from the first image and the second image; identifying, by the computing device, an object region of the difference image; generating, by the computing device and based on the object region of the difference image, a mask; and applying, by the computing device, the mask to the second image of the environment to generate an image of the object.
Abstract:
A non-contact friction ridge capture device is described. The device comprises a device housing, the device housing including an electronics compartment and an illumination shield, with an opening between the electronics compartment and the illumination shield into which a user can insert the user's hand. The device further comprising a camera disposed in the electronics compartment for capturing an image of at least one friction ridge surface on a user's hand. The device further comprises a light source disposed in the electronics compartment, the light source emitting light in the direction of the illumination shield, wherein the peak wavelength of emitted light is in the range of 440 to 570 nanometers (nm). The user's hand is not required to contact the device when the camera captures the image of at least one friction ridge surface on a user's hand.
