Abstract:
A process for insulating a vehicle comprises providing a vehicle (for example, an automobile, truck, train, boat, ship, or aircraft; preferably, an aircraft) with an insulation system comprising at least one insulation article comprising a plurality of discrete, vacuum-containing cells.
Abstract:
The method includes applying a curable sealant to a surface of the aircraft component, forming a non-tacky skin on an exposed portion of the curable sealant within a first time periodwhile allowing a portion of the curable sealant adjacent the surface of the aircraft component to be liquid for a second time period. The second time period is at least twice the first time period. The curable sealant comprises at least one of an adhesion promoter or a wetting agent.
Abstract:
In general, the invention is directed to methods and articles for inspecting aircraft life vests using radio frequency identification technology (RFID). In various embodiments, methods of inspecting an aircraft for life vests are described.
Abstract:
Various embodiments disclosed related to sealant tape. The sealant tape can include a cured product of a sealant composition including a curable liquid that includes a polysulfide, a polythioether, a copolymer thereof, or a combination thereof. The sealant composition also includes a curing agent for curing the curable liquid. Various embodiments provide cured products of the sealant composition, sealant tapes including the cured product, and sealant tapes including any suitable material with an adhesive pattern thereon.
Abstract:
A composition including a polythiol having more than one thiol groups, a polyepoxide having more than one epoxide group, a photolatent base catalyst that can photochemically generate a first amine, and a second amine phase-separated within the composition. A polymer network preparable from the composition, and a method for making the polymer network are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Provided are devices for applying actinic radiation to a curable resin. The devices include a housing having a front face, an actinic radiation source arranged within the housing such that actinic radiation emerges from the housing through the front face, and a proximity detector. The proximity detector is functionally connected to the actinic radiation source such that the actinic radiation source is shut off unless the proximity detector detects the presence of a surface within a safe distance from the front face. Optionally, the device includes a surface temperature sensor functionally connected to the actinic radiation source such that the actinic radiation source is shut off if the surface temperature sensor senses a surface temperature exceeding a maximum safe surface temperature.
Abstract:
A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag comprises an antenna folded into a three-dimensional configuration defining at two antenna layers that reside in different planes. Spacer material separates at least two of the antenna layers.
Abstract:
Curable sealant compositions comprise the components: a) x weight percent of at least one polythiol; b) y weight percent of at least one unsaturated compound having at least two non-aromatic carbon-carbon double bonds, at least one carbon-carbon triple bond, or a combination thereof; c) from 0.01 to 8 weight percent of at least one quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salt; d) from 0.05 to 10 weight percent of at least one organic peroxide; and e) optionally from 0.01 to 10 weight percent of a photoinitiator system capable of generating free radicals upon exposure to actinic radiation. Each of x and y represents a positive real number. The sum x + y is in the range of 72 to 99. The weight percent ranges of the components a) – e) are based on the total weight of the components a) – e). A seal cap including the curable sealant composition and methods of making and using the curable sealant compositions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Provided are sealant compositions that include a first component and second component. The first component contains a polysulfide, a polythioether, or a copolymer or combination thereof containing pendant or terminal thiol groups, while the second component contains an ethylenically-unsaturated compound and either the first or second component further contains a photoinitiator. Alternatively, the second component can contain a polyepoxide and either the first or second component can contain a photolatent base and a photosensitizer. The first or second component further contains a colorant that substantially reflects or substantially transmits light over the wavelength range from 350 nm to 500 nm. These compositions can provide cure-on-demand sealant formulations that comply with Class B sealant regulations on color, provide an acceptable depth of cure, and allow two-part mixing to be easily distinguishable.
Abstract:
A dual curable thiol-ene composition comprising a polythiol, an unsaturated compound, a photoinitiator, an organic hydroperoxide (thermal initiator) and optionally a nitrogen-containing base, such as e.g. an N-heterocyclic compound (together with the organic hydroperoxide a redox initiator system). A cross-linked polymer prepared therefrom. A method of making such a polymer. A cured sealant comprising such a polymer. The sealant is preferably for use in aerospace.
