Abstract:
A plurality of solid polymer particles including an aromatic epoxy crosslinked with a hardener having at least two amino groups and at least one of an aromatic ring or a cycloaliphatic ring is disclosed. The solid polymer particles are useful, for example, as proppants. Mixtures of the plurality of particles and other particles, fluids containing the plurality of particles, methods of making the plurality of particles, and methods of fracturing a subterranean geological formation are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method of making at least a portion of a heat exchanger includes coating at least the portion of the heat exchanger with a composition containing hydrophilic nanoparticles and water. A method of at least one of heating or cooling a fluid that contains a hydrocarbon includes introducing the fluid comprising the hydrocarbon to a heat exchanger. At least a portion of the heat exchanger has a coating including hydrophilic nanoparticles. Also provided is a heat exchanger. At least a portion of the heat exchanger has a coating including hydrophilic nanoparticles. The heat exchanger itself or used in the methods is useful for at least one of heating or cooling a fluid comprising a hydrocarbon.
Abstract:
A method of facilitating the removal of bitumen-containing mud from a substrate includes coating the substrate with a composition comprising nanoparticles and water, such that the bitumen-containing mud that adheres to the coated substrate may be more easily removed from the substrate than from an uncoated substrate. In one embodiment, the composition assists an aqueous terpene-based detergent to more effectively clean bitumen-containing mud from the painted steel undercarriages of trucks used in oil sands operations.
