Abstract: The invention relates to a drowsiness alert system for an operator console (1) wherein one or more operators (A, B) control and monitor physical facilities, operations or physically dispersed services. The system comprises wearable personal identification and sensor devices (9) worn by the operators (A, B) and a control unit (7) for communicating with said wearable personal identification devices (9) in order to detect the presence of said one or more operators (A, B) within a defined control room area (8). The invention is especially characterized in that each personal identification and sensor device (9) includes a sensor unit (14) for monitoring vital signs and other medical health status data of an individual operator (A, B), and is adapted to communicate said data to the control unit (7), which is adapted to detect a state of drowsiness or sleep and then activate a drowsiness alert action.
