Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable lessening the amount of residual fly ash by synthesizing simply, easily, and at low cost such a product as may be added to fire grate ash or as may have use independent of others. SOLUTION: In a method for thermally treating fly dust 10 originating in waste-incinerating equipment the waste is burned on a fire grate 4 inside a combustion furnace 1 with evolution of flue gas 11 containing fire grate ash 19 and fly dust, fire grate ash 19 is extracted from a combustion furnace 1 having a primary combustor 7 and a secondary combustor 8 and treated further, fly dust accumulated inside a boiler 2 and inside a dust-filter apparatus 3 both disposed downstream is carried outside, and at least part of this fly dust is melted or sintered and at least part of the fly dust is led back into the high temperature region of the combustion furnace 1. At this time the temperature in the high temperature region is made higher than the melting temperature or sintering temperature of the fly dust 10 and the fly dust is made to remain in the high temperature region of the combustion furnace 1 for a sufficiently long time. By doing so the fly dust is vitrified or sintered at least partially.

Abstract: A method of processing slag and/or filter dust from waste incinerators involves subjecting the slag, after passing the firing grate, to direct sepn. into two fractions without previous quenching in a water bath, feeding the coarse fraction to a wet deslagger (4), separately treating the fine fraction, and cleaning the flue gases in a flue gas treatment plant (2, 5, 6, 10...) which produces filter ash and gypsum in addn. to chlorine-contg. residues. The novelty is that the 0-2 mm. size fine slag fraction is mixed with the previously dehydrated gypsum and is converted into a leach-resistant product by moistening.
