Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a method for operating a charger for a voltage-holding device. SOLUTION: In this method for operating the charger (1) for the voltage- holding device (2), a rectifier (5) of the charger (1) which is connected with phase inputs (PA, PB, PC) via transformer (3) having electric AC voltage supply system is driven by a drive signal (5) formed of reference charge voltages (ULA,ref ,ULB,ref , ULC,ref ). Charge voltages (ULA, ULB, ULC) for corresponding phases (A, B, C) are generated in the respective phase inputs (PA, PB, PC), and a substantially constant DC voltage (UDC) is generated on a DC voltage side of the rectifier (5). The respective charge voltages (ULA, ULB, ULC) are generated in the corresponding phases (A, B, C) in such a manner that charge currents (ILA, ILB, ILC) are made to flow to be substantially in proportion to phase system voltages (ULA, ULB, ULC) of the corresponding phases (A, B, C) of the electric AC voltage supply system (3).
