Abstract: According to an aspect of this disclosure, an intrinsically safe circuit includes a voltage source, a Zener diode, a transistor, a switching element, one or more resistors, and a current limiting stage. According to this aspect, the intrinsically safe circuit may be configured such that an over-voltage threshold is determined by a voltage across the Zener diode, a base-emitter voltage of the transistor, and a voltage across the one or more resistors.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus is provided for magnetostrictive position detectors to compensate fluid level measurements for temperature conditions associated with the process without the use of a built-in or external stand-alone temperature sensor. Also disclosed is an algorithm to compensate for temperature conditions associated with the process by determining thermal error coefficients for temperature compensation that are proportional to the process temperature via digital processing of the signals of the position detector.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a transmitter assembly for a hazardous environment. The transmitter assembly includes a transmitter that includes a transmitting unit and a probe. The transmitting unit is configured to be positioned in a first area and includes an intrinsically safe circuit. The probe is configured to be positioned in a second area that is more hazardous and has a higher equipment protection level than the first area. The probe is electrically connected directly or indirectly to the intrinsically safe circuit. The transmitter assembly also includes a separation assembly positioned between the transmitting unit and the probe and including a hermetic seal configured to be electrically connected to the transmitting unit and the probe and a nut defining a tunnel sized to receive the hermetic seal therein. The exterior threads of the nut are complementary to threads on a partition wall positioned between the transmitting unit and the probe.

Abstract: A system for dynamically adjusting an operation of a magnetostrictive position sensor is provided. The system includes a controller configured to receive an electrical signal from the magnetostrictive position sensor that includes a response pulse, identify factory calibration data that correlates initial recorded values of amplitudes of response pulses received from the magnetostrictive position sensor at different locations of a position magnet along a length of the magnetostrictive position sensor, identify an initial amplitude of the response pulse based on the factory calibration data, calculate a difference between the initial amplitude and an amplitude of the response pulse, determine if the difference is greater than a threshold value, and generate an alert in response to determining that the difference is greater than the threshold value.

Abstract: Illustrative embodiments of systems and methods for enhanced vibration and electrical noise performance in magnetostrictive transmitters are disclosed. In one embodiment, a signal conditioning circuit may comprise an instrumentation amplifier configured to receive and amplify an analog measurement signal, an active high pass filter configured to reduce noise in a signal output by the instrumentation amplifier, a variable gain amplifier stage configured to further amplify a signal output by the active high pass filter, a distance detection module configured to process a signal output by the variable gain amplifier stage to determine a distance measurement associated with the analog measurement signal received by the instrumentation amplifier, and a programmable control circuit configured to control a gain level of the variable gain amplifier stage and to receive data concerning the signal output by the variable gain amplifier stage, including the distance measurement, from the distance detection module.
