Abstract: The present invention provides a method for generating an enhanced chemiluminescent signal from an acridinium sulfonamide compound, the method comprising the step of contacting the acridinium sulfonamide compound with a trigger solution in the presence of an enhancer to obtain a chemiluminescent signal which is stronger than would otherwise be generated in the absence of said enhancer. The enhancer comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of nonionic surfactants, zwitterionic surfactants, and anionic surfactants.
