Abstract: A device especially suitable for use in carrying out assays for analytes of interest in various fluids. including a housing with an inlet at one end and a plunger opening at the other, a substantially spherically bead positioned in the housing and adapted to seat in the lower portion of the housing, and a plunger positioned within the housing, the plunger including a head portion and adapted to conform to or deform around and to press the bead into contact with the inlet end of the housing, thereby to ensure that the housing has essentially a zero volume when the pluger is displaced all the way into the housing.
