In a magnetic recording apparatus employing a moving magnetisable sheet record which is scanned in alternate directions across the record by a transducer head or heads, means are provided for moving the heads partly in the same direction as the record is travelling during each scan so that the record is scanned in parallel paths at right-angles to the direction of travel of the record, to form or follow a trace e as indicated in Fig. 2. The embodiment described and illustrated diagrammatically in Fig. 3 has a record sheet M which is drawn over a transducer carriage A by rollers C1, C2. The transducer heads are driven to and fro on the carriage A by a system of cables passing over pulleys p1, p2 and coupled to clutches E1, E2. The carriage A is pivoted about a central point p so that it may lay along one or other of the axes a1, a2. When the carriage lays along the axis a1, the transducer heads are driven in the direction z through the clutch E1. At the end of the stroke, the carriage A is swung (by means not described) about the pivot p so that it lays along the axis a2, along which the transducer heads are driven in the direction y through clutch E2.

    Abstract: Una máquina de dictar e la cual el registro y la reproducción de los sonidos se efectúan por vía magnética según un procedimiento conocido en sí mismo caracterizada porque tiene un motor de arrastre un soporte de magnetograma una o más cabezas polares de registro de reproducción y de borrado presentándose el magnetograma en forma de una hoja magnetizable disponiéndose medios para explorar el magnetograma por líneas paralelas horizontales sucesivas alternativamente en un sentido y en el otro estando el mangnetograma animado de un movimiento de traslación vertical continua estando las cabezas polares de registro de reproducción y de borrado animadas de un movimiento combinado de traslación continua paralela y del mismo sentido que la traslación del magnetograma y de traslación continua ortogonal a la traslación del magnetograma siendo además las cabezas polares desplazadas a cada final de línea de exploración en un sentido paralelo pero inverso al sentido de traslación del mangetograma de la anchura de una pista magnética de tal modo que durante la exploración de una línea de magnetograma el movimiento relativos de las cabezas polares con relación al magnetrograma esté formado por un movimiento de traslación continua ortogonal al sentido de traslación del mangnetograma.
