    Abstract: PURPOSE:To raise bond strength of silicon nitride ceramics especially at high temperature in laying an electroconductive binder on a bonding part between ceramics, sending an electric current to the binder and electrically bonding the ceramics by using a specific binder. CONSTITUTION:In electric bonding wherein an electroconductive binder is laid on a binding part between ceramics, an electric current is sent to the binder to generate Joule's heat, by which the bonding part is heated, the binder having the following composition is used. Namely, the binder is prepared by blending an alkaline earth metal fluoride (e.g. CaF2) or alkali metal fluoride (e.g. NaF) with at least one of Al2O3 and SiO2 and silicon nitride powder, a main component of ceramic to be bonded.     Abstract: Ceramics produced by the process of the present invention do not have the disadvantages of conventional ceramics which can be machined only with relative difficulty and whose use on a larger scale is ruled out despite the great hardness and the excellent abrasion (wear) resistance. A remarkably good machineability is achieved by the addition of a specified iron content to pure aluminium oxide. Although this process reduces the hardness, the abrasion resistance and the physical strength remain in an acceptable range. The good machineability is achieved according to the invention without adverse effects on the properties and advantages of the ceramic, apart from the heat resistance.
