Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and highly reliable optical mouse having a function for scrolling to any direction. SOLUTION: An optical sensor is installed in the mouse so that it is touched by the finger tip of a hand holding the mouse and is covered. When the finger tip moves on the optical sensor, the movement of the finger which the optical sensor detects is resolved into moving increment in upper/lower directions and right/left directions and is incorporated into a mouse protocol with the moving increment of the upper/lower directions and the right/left directions of the whole mouse. Then, it is informed to a computer.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-mechanical pointing device, inexpensive and having high reliability, and used by a user similarly to the conventional mouse. SOLUTION: This pointing device 11 includes a housing having a flat base 6 moved to an operating surface 5 having an imaging surface shape. The housing includes an upper surface 21 and a skirt 20 connected to the periphery of the flat base. This pointing device includes: an opening part 13 of the base; illuminating light sources 2, 3 mounted near the opening part inside the housing to illuminate the surface shape of the operating surface; and an optical motion detecting circuit 12 generating a movement signal indicating the movement to the illuminated surface shape seen through the opening part. The optical movement detecting circuit includes: a plurality of photodetectors 10 having output; a reference frame 31 for a digitized output value of the photodetector; and a memory having a digitized sample frame 32 of the photodetector obtained next to the reference frame. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cataphoretic channel that minimizes race track effect. SOLUTION: A cataphoretic system (AP1) includes a microanalysis capillary tube cataphoretic channel (10) of plane meandering, and a power supply (12) for generating electrolysis. The channel includes linear sections (24 and 26), and curvature part (30 and 32) of 180 deg. for joining the linear sections. Each curvature part has inside and outside curvature walls (46) and (48). The inside curvature wall includes inflexion points (54, 58, 66, and 70). Each outside curvature wall has arcs (80 and 84) with a quarter circle, and does not have any inflexion points. The gap between the tracks of different migration is reduced by a narrow part being demarcated in such manner, thus reducing race track effect.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image sensor array for correcting curve distortion of a camera lens system which increase efficiency and is suitable for mass-production, and to provide an effective manufacturing method of the image sensor array. SOLUTION: The solid-state image sensor array for correcting curve distortion and the manufacturing method of the image sensor array use straight line segments (606, 608) which approximate curvature of curve distortion which defines a structure of the image sensor array. By using the straight line segments, photoelectric elements distributed in an ununiformed pattern can be obtained wherein curve distortion such as barrel type distortion and spool type distortion is compensated. Further, efficiency of the photoelectric elements is increased by maximizing surface areas of the photoelectric elements by using the straight line segments. Since the structure of the image sensor array is defined by the straight line segments, design of the image sensor array becomes suitable for the conventional mass-production process. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an appliance for tracking the movement of a fingertip. SOLUTION: An optical fingertip tracker 1, which may be a pseudo trackball, responds to the motion of one texture (fingerprint etc.), of user's digits 3 pressed against an image input aperture 8 to produce motion signals 22 processed within an appliance to be controlled. The appliance may have a minimal GUI, such as an LCD display having low resolution. An appliance control parameter is set or adjusted in response to translation of the fingertip along a particular axis. For example, to enter a parameter value (volume), a changing bar graph can be displayed. To set the tone control of an audio appliance, it can be sufficient to simply adjust the tone until the result is as desired. A numeric display of control parameter digits may be desirable, as when moving the fingertip tunes a receiver. There can be several particular axes along which fingertip movement changes an associated appliance control parameters.

SOLUTION: An apparatus (1) for controlling the position of a screen pointer of an electronic device having a display screen is provided with an imaging surface (5) against which a top end part (6) of a human digit (7) may be placed, a light source (2) for illuminating the tip of the digit placed on the imaging surface, and for forming a reflected image, a motion transducer (9), a lens (8) for receiving the reflected image, and for directing this to the motion transducer, and a controller (40). The motion transducer generates the digital expression data of the reflected image, and generates the first movement data set indicating the movement of the tip of the digit across the imaging surface based on the digital expression data. When the tip of the human digit is removed from the imaging surface, the controller generates the second movement data set indicating the movement of the tip of the digit on the imaging surface before the tip of the digit is removed from the imaging surface.
