Abstract: The invention relates to a nozzle for projecting powdered solid products intended for coating objects, of the kind comprising a device for shaping the incident mixture consisting of said powdered solid and its conveyor gas, into an outlet jet of substantially flat form, said nozzle essentially comprising a plurality of separate pipes passing at least partly through the nozzle in the direction of emission of the jet, and intended to be completely traversed by a specific portion of said jet, each of said separate pipes being provided with a suction device for said incident mixture, said suction devices being of the Venturi type, each comprising at least one conduit for injecting a flow of auxiliary gas into said pipes. Especially advantageous applications of the invention are found in the field of electrostatic powdercoating apparatus.

Abstract: An electrostatic powder coating system in which one or more powder base layers and a powder top coating layer are sequentially deposited without any form of intermediate heating being applied to the articles being coated, with a final common application of heat to the multi-coated article, uses devices which prevent the covering layer deposited from being contaminated by impurities. The articles are conveyed by an overhead system between cabins incorporating a powder extraction system to prevent the base layer, e.g. black or blue, for enamelling, from contaminating the top layer which is e.g. white.

Abstract: After the workpieces have been conveyed through >=1 cabin and sprayed with the enamel powder, they are transferred to a baking plant, whereas the carriers pass through a cleaning cabin. The carriers or balancers are suspended from the conveyor by hooks so they are free to vibrate. In the cleaning cabin, a pneumatic sensor detects the presence of the carrier and feeds a signal to a pneumatic logic circuit so air is fed to a pneumatic cylinder driving a hammer fitted on its rear end with a counterweight. The hammer applies several blows to each carrier so the grains of powder fall off leaving a clean carrier. Simple and efficient removal of powder from the carriers, is achieved.

Abstract: An electrostatic spray ahead for enamel powder had a body (1) with a conductive ring (2) at the rear with a sleeve (3) extending from it with a deflector (4) at the front, and side discharge holes (10). Powder is discharged through them onto the interior of the body, assisted by air blown through channels (8) outside the sleeve. The powder is charged by needle pointed ele ctrodes (5) connected to the conductive ring, housed inside holes through the body so that they are protected from abrasion by the powder. Parts such as the body (1), the sleeve (3) and the deflector are made of ceramic to resist abrasion by the powder.

Abstract: A powder feed device for supplying a powder dispensing apparatus such as a powder spray gun of an electrostatic powder deposition system. Entrained powder is extracted from a fluidization tank and transported through a half-inch diameter tube or hose to the dispensing apparatus. To prevent clumps of powder and/or powder adhering to the walls of the tube or hose while permitting reduced air flow speed of about 2 to 3 m/s an electric field is provided in the tube or hose and applied by an outer conductor extending around the tube or hose and an inner wire conductor inside the tube or hose extending in the direction of the flow of entrained powder, which conductors are connected across an AC voltage source. The electric field may operate constantly or intermittently.

Abstract: Process for coating objects by electrostatic spraying with enamel powder, the novelty being that, in spraying a cloud of any desired type of electrostatic powder coating, means are employed so the average specific resistance (ASR) of the cloud matches the requirements for good spraying. The means pref. provide an ASR high enough to ensure good electrostatic adhesion, but low enough to avoid counter-emission; and the coating thickness is pref. controlled by adjusting the ASR. The pref. means are (a) heating the fluidising air for the powder feed funnel(s) and possibly the carrier air; (b) mixing fresh powder with recycled powder, esp. using 30-50% fresh powder in the mixt. The powder coating obtd. have good adhesion, without crater formation.
