Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating the surfaces of piled aluminum alloy ingots in a heating process. SOLUTION: Spacer blocks are set adjacently to aluminum alloy ingots so as to form an accumulated body. In this case, the spacer block has a support face which is in contact with the contact face of the aluminum alloy ingot, and at least one of the support face and the contact face contains a fluorine- containing material. The accumulated body is heated to a temperature at which the fluorine-containing material is decomposed or vaporized so as to form a layer of fluorinated oxide on the boundary between the ingot and the spacer block.
