Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy the needs for a method that allows pulse shapes and durations to be manipulated for different phacoemulsification applications and procedures. SOLUTION: The method of generating energy used for an ophthalmic surgical device includes steps of programming a linear rise component, programming a linear decay component, and generating pulses including multi-segment, wherein a first segment has the linear rise component which increases from a first amplitude to a second amplitude, a second segment begins at the end of first segment and is the second amplitude, a third segment has the linear decay component which decreases from the second amplitude to the third amplitude, and the linear rise and decay components are programmed separately from a natural rise and natural decay which occur due to switching an amplifier on and off to generate pulses. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phacoemulsification tip having a shaft with a distal end that is offset relative to the center line of the shaft when observed from above or below. SOLUTION: The tip 400 contains the shaft 412 having an opening 419 that is cut at an angle relative to the longitudinal center line 415 forming the oval or elliptical opening 419. The shaft 412 contains the distal end 413 that is offset relative to the center line 415 of the shaft 412 when observed from above or below so that the distal tip 413 lies on a line 417 that runs through a major diameter M of the opening 419 and is offset from, but is parallel to, the center line 415. A construction which produces a shipping motion when the tip 400 is vibrated in the longitudinal direction is formed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical apparatus relating to cataract surgery and more particularly to manipulation tools and irrigation sleeves used in phacoemulsification surgery to reduce or prevent the flow of irrigation fluid out of the irrigation sleeve from around the shaft. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes irrigation sleeve 101 containing outflow holes 117 and a distal opening 130, the distal opening can be formed in the apparatus 100 previously, and tightly fits about the shaft 12 of the apparatus 100. Such a tight fit reduces or prevents the flow of irrigation fluid out of the apparatus 100 around the shaft 12. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy a need of methods that allow pulse shapes and durations to be manipulated for different phacoemulsification applications and surgeries. SOLUTION: The method of generating energy for use with an ophthalmic surgical device includes a process of generating a group of pulses having at least one pulse 530, 540 or 550 that includes a programmed substantially linear component and at least one pulse 510 or 520 having an attribute that is different from the pulse having the programmed substantially linear component. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to easily select a different pulse mode and to easily adjust the parameter in the selected mode in a crystal lens ultrasonic emulsification suction surgery system allowing the user to select the pulse mode by touching a display screen. SOLUTION: The user interface 500 is displayed in the display screen 505 of the system. The interface 500 comprises a power display element 510, an on-time display element 520, and an off-time display element 530, and also comprises such display elements as the suction rate 550 and the vacuum limit pressure 560. The motion of a device is controlled according to the corresponding operation parameter and parameter values expressed in the interface 500 and programmed in the system by stamping and releasing a foot pedal. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phacoemulsification tip, particularly twisted phacoemulsification cutting tip. SOLUTION: The phacoemulsification cutting tip 210 has a shaft 212 being arcuate or curved to the longitudinal axis over the whole length of the shaft. Such a feature serves to produce more efficient cutting during torsional vibration of the tip while maintaining a greater space between the distal end 214 of the tip and a posterior capsule. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a flow of irrigation liquid flowing out of the distal end of a perfusion sleeve, thereby preventing the irrigation sleeve from being collapsed on a surgical needle or a surgical manipulator during insertion to a dissection part. SOLUTION: The surgical manipulator 112 has a shaft 113, and the comparatively flexible irrigation sleeve 114 includes: at least one port 116 and one opening distal end 122. This surgical apparatus includes: the irrigation sleeve substantially coaxial about the shaft of the surgical manipulator to form a gap communicating with the port and the opening distal end between the surgical manipulator and the irrigation sleeve; and a holding ring 110 fitted to the shaft to decrease flow of the irrigation in the gap flowing out of the opening distal end of the irrigation sleeve and accelerate the flow of the irrigation in the gap flowing out of the port, and having dimensions and shape to be held to the opening distal end of the irrigation sleeve by the shaft. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intraocular lens delivery system having an injector body (125), a plunger (110), a nozzle portion (160), and a heater.SOLUTION: A plunger is slidably movable within an injector body. A nozzle portion is located on a distal end of the injector body and has a hollow interior adapted for receiving an intraocular lens. A heater is integrated with an intraocular lens delivery system and is adapted to heat the intraocular lens.
