Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for increasing outflow of aqueous humor from the eye through a trabecular meshwork. SOLUTION: The technique is provided by using a fluid pulse which can be focused, thereby perforating a trabecular meshwork, or applied over a larger area so as to stimulate the trabecular meshwork for improved fluid transport. The irrigating fluid pulse can be used to clean away a material such as iris pigment that may be blocking or clogging the trabecular meshwork. Such a technique may be practiced by using the herein disclosed tip with a commercially available surgical handpiece. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple handpiece and a tip part capable of heating a solution internally used for practicing a liquefracture technique. SOLUTION: The tip part of a surgical handpiece has two coaxial tubes or channels which are attached in a main body. The tip part has one or more specific shapes for forming the fluid discharge to optimize the handpiece performance at various stages of an operational processing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tip assembly used for a liquefaction surgical handpiece. SOLUTION: This tip assembly has an inner connector and an outer cap. The outer cap includes: an external thread for attaching the tip assembly to the handpiece. The inner connector is provided with an alignment tab and fits within the outer cap so that the inner connector can be rotated within the outer cap. The inner and outer liquefaction tube frictionally fit into a bore in the inner connector. The proximal end of the inner connector is provided with a gasket for sealing the inner connector against the handpiece. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
The present invention relates to systems and methods for leveling a power supply current into a circuit that drives a pulsed load, such as a surgical cataract handpiece. According to various embodiments for current leveling of the present invention, the input current is leveled to regulate power being drawn from a power supply to prevent supply current surges that can: a) warrant a higher-rated supply; b) cause large voltage dips on a supply that supports other devices; or c) both.

Abstract:
Abstract Intraocular lenses (IOLs) that improve lens stability by, for example, increasing anterior-posterior stiffness of the IOL, increasing anterior-posterior dimensions of the IOL and/or increasing contact area with the equator of the bag to resist movement of the IOL as the bag collapses over time. These IOLs may be non modular (single component) or modular (multiple component). In modular embodiments, the IOL system may include intraocular base and optic components, which, when combined, form a modular IOL.
Abstract:
Modular IOL systems including a base (55) and a lens (65), wherein the lens includes fixed (95) and actuatable tabs (96) for connection to the base. The modular IOL allows for the lens to be adjusted or exchanged while leaving the base in place, either intra-operatively or postoperatively. Drug delivery capabilities and/or sensing capabilities may be incorporated into the base. Injector devices may be used to facilitate placement of the base and the lens sequentially or simultaneously into the eye.

Abstract:
A tip assembly for a liquefaction surgical handpiece. The tip assembly has an inner connector and an outer cap. The outer cap contains an external thread for attaching the tip assembly to a handpiece. The inner housing contains an alignment tab and fits within the outer cap so as to allow rotation of the inner connector within the outer cap. The inner and outer liquefaction tip tubes are frictionally fit into a bore in the inner connector. The proximal end of the inner housing contains a gasket that seal the inner housing against the handpiece.
