THE RATIO OF THE WEIGHT OF THE POLYPHOSPHATE (EXPRESSED AS P2O5) THE WEIGHT OF THE MAGNESIUM COMPOUND (EXPRESSED AS MGO) IS BETWEEN ABOUT 0.2 AND ABOUT 2, AND THE SUM OF THE WEIGHT OF THE POLYPHOSPHATE (EXPRESSED AS P2O5) AND THE WEIGHT OF THE MAGNESIUM COMPOUND (EXPRESSED AS MGO) CONSTITUTES BETWEEN ABOUT 0.5% AND ABOUT 12% OF THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE FERTILIZER COMPOSITION.

Abstract: 1,201,879. Aqueous suspension fertilizers. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 14 Feb., 1969 [16 Feb., 1968], No. 8293/69. Heading C1B. A fertilizer composition which is an aqueous suspension comprises (a) a plant nutrient compound containing one or more of N, P, K, (b) a water-soluble polyphosphate, and (c) a watersoluble Mg compound, the weight ratio of polyphosphate as P 2 O 5 to Mg compound as MgO being 0À1 : 1 to 5À0 : 1 and the total weight of polyphosphate as P 2 O 5 and Mg compound as MgO being 0.5 to 12% of the composition. The suspension has improved resistance to sedimentation and the formation of large crystals and aggregates, thought to be due to the formation of a needle-shaped crystal lattice of magnesium polyphosphates. Exemplified ingredients are (a) urea, ammonium nitrate, (b) ammoniated polyphosphoric acid, and (c) Mg chloride, sulphate and nitrate, potassium magnesium sulphate. Optional ingredients are attapulgite, bentonite, MnO, CuSO 4 , FeSO 4 , B 2 O 3 and MnSO 4 .
