Abstract: PURPOSE: To perform measurement without requiring an ion precipitator by measuring only radon/thoron as a parent nuclide without being affected by a daughter nuclide. CONSTITUTION: A face-shaped one-side electrode 42 is laid out near an α-ray incidence window 34 of an ionization box 28 and the other-side electrode 44 is laid out away from it. A high voltage is applied to radon daughter nuclide and thoron daughter nuclide with polarities to be captured by the other-side electrode 44 between both electrodes 42 and 44. The α rays from radon and thoron advance inside the ionization box 28 from the α-ray incidence window 34 and are detected. The α rays from the radon daughter nuclide and thoron daughter nuclide captured by the other-side electrode 44 do not reach the α-ray incidence window 34 and cannot be detected. Even if another ion enters a gas introduction chamber 30, it does not affect measurement unless it is radioactive, thus eliminating the need for an ion recipitator.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To measure radon daughter nuclide and thoron daughter nuclide by separately measuring radon and thoron when measuring them. CONSTITUTION: A gas to be measured is introduced into a first detection unit 30 and α rays from radon and its daughter nuclide and thoron and its daughter nuclide are detected by an ionization box 36 while capturing the radon daughter nuclide and thoron daughter nuclide at one-side electrode 46 and improving detection sensitivity. The radon daughter nuclide, thoron, and thoron daughter nuclide in the gas to be measured are eliminated by a radon extraction means 54. In a second detection unit 32, while radon daughter nuclide which is generated due to the decay at or after a radon extraction means 54 is captured by an one-side electrode 146 and detection sensitivity is improved, α rays from the radon and its daughter nuclide are detected by an ionization box 136. Radon count value and thoron count value are obtained simply and economically from the output signals in real time.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To individually measure radon and thoron, measure radon daughter nuclide and thoroin daughter nuclide in real time, and further improve the measurement sensitivity of the magnetized nuclide. CONSTITUTION: In a first detection unit 26, only radon is introduced into a gas introduction chamber 38 by a radon extraction filter 32. Since the radon daughter nuclide generated due to the decay in the gas introduction chamber 38 is a magnetized nuclide, it is captured by an electrode at one side. α ray from the radon and radon daughter nuclide is detected by an ionization box 36 via an αray incidence window 36A. On the other hand, all of the radon and its daughter nuclide and thoron and its daughter nuclide are introduced into a second detection unit 28 and the radon daughter nuclide and thoron daughter nuclide are captured by an electrode 150 at one side. In an ionization box 136, α rays from the radon and its daughter nuclide and thoron and its daughter nuclide are detected.
