    Abstract: Elements which go together to form a heat exchanger comprise one or usually two perforated plates through which heat conducting rods or tubes are threaded. The rods protrude either side of te plate surface and are welded to the plate. Where 2 plates make up the element the cavity between the plates is sealed around the plate edges and inlet and outlet orifices are made in the plates. Rods passing through a single plate can be inclined and when the rods pass through 2 plates the ends of the rods extending beyond the outer surfaces of the 2 plates can be inclined towards the bottom. The elements are used for heat exchangers for heat recovery from gas turbine exhausts or for cooling towers of power stations. The type of structure allows plates to be made thinner than in other exchangers so giving a lighter and more economical exchanger. Since rods can be inclined, droplets of condensn. run off them helping the heat transfer coefficient.
