    Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide an apparatus (122) for controlling a flyback converter(104) for use with a computer system (120). During operation, the apparatus (122) senses an output voltage by means of voltage sensor (118) and output current by means of current sensor (114) of the flyback converter (104). The apparatus comprises discontinuous mode controller (124) and continuous mode controller (126). The apparatus (122) then switches a mode for controlling the flyback converter (104) from a discontinuous mode to a continuous mode based on the sensed output voltage and the sensed output current.
