    Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for representing video and images with full resolution color component information and yet remain compatible with legacy processing systems that process images with reduced resolution information. The new image representation may include a scalable format that consists of a base layer, coded to match expectations of a legacy coder. The new image representation also may include additional enhancement layer(s) that enable upconversions of reduced-resolution color components to higher resolutions. The image representation not only provides power savings in decoding full-resolution representations but it also provides other benefits, such as scalable and power aware decoding.

Providing the ability to select which filter output is used for display and as a reference may result in better video quality for multiple types of video data.     Abstract: Video compression and decompression techniques are disclosed that provide improved bandwidth control for video compression and decompression systems. In particular, video coding and decoding techniques quantize input video in multiple dimensions. According to these techniques, pixel residuals may be generated from a comparison of an array of input data to an array of prediction data. The pixel residuals may be quantized in a first dimension. After the quantization, the quantized pixel residuals may be transformed to an array of transform coefficients. The transform coefficients may be quantized in a second dimension and entropy coded. Decoding techniques invert these processes. In still other embodiments, multiple quantizers may be provided upstream of the transform stage, either in parallel or in cascade, which provide greater flexibility to video coders to quantize data in different dimensions in an effort to balance the competing interest in compression efficiency and quality of reconstructed video.

    Abstract: A method and system for adaptively mixing video components with graphics/UI components, where the video components and graphics/UI components may be of different types, e.g., different dynamic ranges (such as HDR, SDR) and/or color gamut (such as WCG). The mixing may result in a frame optimized for a display device's color space, ambient conditions, viewing distance and angle, etc., while accounting for characteristics of the received data. The methods include receiving video and graphics/UI elements, converting the video to HDR and/or WCG, performing statistical analysis of received data and any additional applicable rendering information, and assembling a video frame with the received components based on the statistical analysis. The assembled video frame may be matched to a color space and displayed. The video data and graphics/UI data may have or be adjusted to have the same white point and/or primaries.
