Abstract:
Displays such as organic light-emitting diode displays may be provided with touch sensing capabilities. A touch sensor (14) may be formed from electrodes (44) located on a thin-film encapsulation layer (84) or one or more sides of a polarizer. A single-sided or double-sided touch sensor panel may be attached to the upper or lower surface of a polarizer. Control circuitry (36) may be used to provide control signals to light-emitting diodes (50) in the display using a grid of control lines. The control lines and transparent electrode structures such as indium tin oxide structures formed on a thin-film encapsulation layer (84) or polarizer may be used as electrodes for a touch sensor. Displays (14) may have active regions (A) and inactive peripheral portions (IR). The displays (14) may have edge portions that are bent along a bend axis (122) that is within the active region (A) to form a borderless display. Virtual buttons (VB) may be formed on the bent edge portions.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are liquid-crystal display (LCD) touch screens that integrate the touch sensing elements with the display circuitry. The integration may take a variety of forms. Touch sensing elements can be completely implemented within the LCD stackup but outside the not between the color filter plate and the array plate. Alternatively, some touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates with other touch sensing elements not between the plates. In another alternative, all touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates. The latter alternative can include both conventional and in-plane- switching (IPS) LCDs. In some forms, one or more display structures can also have a touch sensing function. Techniques for manufacturing and operating such displays, as well as various devices embodying such displays are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Electrode configurations for reducing wobble error for a stylus translating on a surface over and between electrodes of a touch sensor panel is disclosed. In some examples, electrodes associated with a more linear signal profile are correlated with lower wobble error. In some examples, electrodes are coupled to adjacent electrodes via diffusing resistors such that the signal profile for each electrode is spread to be more linear. In some configurations, the value of the diffusing resistors and series resistance associated with an electrode is selected based on a desired signal profile for that electrode. In some examples, the series resistance can include a trace resistance and a compensating resistance. The compensating resistance can compensate for a variance in trace resistance between electrodes, thus making series resistance substantially equal for each of the electrodes.
Abstract:
A proximity and light sensing device including a radiation emitter for proximity sensing positioned on a substrate. The device further includes a radiation detector positioned on the substrate, the radiation detector configured to detect radiation from the emitter. An ambient light detector is also positioned on the substrate and around the radiation emitter so as to form a border around the radiation emitter and detect off-axis ambient light rays.

Abstract:
A wireless power transmitting device transmits wireless power signals to a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power receiving device has a rectifier and a wireless power receiving coil that receives wireless power signals. The wireless power transmitting device uses a layer of coils to transmit the wireless power signals. A dielectric layer in the wireless power transmitting device defines a charging surface that receives the wireless power receiving device. A layer of temperature sensors is interposed between the layer of coils and the dielectric layer. Control circuitry in the wireless power transmitting device uses temperature information from the temperature sensors to determine whether a foreign object such as a coin is present on the charging surface.
Abstract:
An imprint circuit patterning technique that shrinks the minimum feature dimension of circuit features formed on plastic substrates is provided. The imprint circuit patterning technique may be applied to the fabrication of LCDs, particularly LCDs including integral touch sensing. Substrates having patterned substantially transparent electrodes for use with such touch-sensing LCDs and the touch-sensing LCDs are also provided.
Abstract:
A multipoint touch surface controller is disclosed herein. The controller includes an integrated circuit including output circuitry for driving a capacitive multi-touch sensor and input circuitry for reading the sensor. Also disclosed herein are various noise rejection and dynamic range enhancement techniques that permit the controller to be used with various sensors in various conditions without reconfiguring hardware.
Abstract:
A touch sensor panel configured to switch between a mutual capacitance near field sensing architecture and a self-capacitance far field sensing architecture. The touch sensor panel includes circuitry that can switch the configuration of touch electrodes to act as either drive lines in a mutual capacitance configuration or as sense electrodes in a self- capacitance configuration. The touch sensor panel also includes circuitry that can switch the configuration of touch electrodes to act as either sense lines in a mutual capacitance configuration or a sense electrode in a self-capacitance configuration.
