In one example, a method involves generating a hash marker based on a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) control protocol data unit (PDU) or service data unit (SDU). The method also involves transmitting a message including the hash marker to the RAN.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and techniques for handover and false base station detection in a wireless communication network are described. A described technique performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a source base station of a wireless network, a handover command to indicate a handover to a target base station for communication in the wireless network; receiving information from the target base station; determining whether the target base station is a legitimate base station of the wireless network based on the information from the target base station and handover information included in the handover command; and performing a handover based on the handover command and a determination that the target base station is the legitimate base station.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments include a UE that determines that access stratum (AS) security has not been activated and mobility is handled by a 5G core network. The UE then encodes a radio resource control (RRC) connection re-establishment request for transmission based on the determination. The RRC connection re-establishment request may include an indicator of a UE identity or a single bit value to indicate a re-establishment cause. The UE may also determine a truncated ng-5G-S-TSMI of the UE, wherein the RRC connection re-establishment request includes the truncated ng-5G-S-TSMI.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to allowing unauthenticated UEs to gain restricted access to an operator network to access network access subscription service. Once the unauthenticated UE successfully downloads a subscription profile for accessing the operator network, the unauthenticated UE can disconnect and can, thereafter, authenticate to the operator network using the subscription profile. Embodiments disclosed herein can perform one-way authentication to the operator network for obtaining a limited connectivity to reduce DoS attacks on the operator network. More specifically, these embodiments can support unauthenticated UEs to allow unauthenticated UEs to access the operator network for RLOS while minimizing DoS attack.
