Abstract:
An image sensor assembly includes an image sensor die attached adjacent to a cavity and a lower surface in a preformed package having substantially vertical surfaces extending from the lower surface to an upper surface of the package. The image sensor die may include a charge-coupled device or an active pixel sensor imager that provides the light receiving surface for capturing the image. A cover is placed over the upper surface of the package. The cover may be a glass cover or an infrared cut filter. A light absorbing layer is applied to the cover in registry with the image sensor die such that the light absorbing layer prevents light from falling on the substantially vertical surfaces of the preformed package without preventing the passage of light that falls on the light receiving surface of the image sensor die.
Abstract:
A magnet assembly for a audio speaker provides a gap through which a voice coil assembly passes. A magnetic member, a yoke, and a pole piece form a magnetic circuit that focuses magnetic energy in the gap. A spider movably supports the voice coil assembly. The spider is coupled to one of the magnetic member or the yoke by forming the one of the magnetic member or the yoke in two parts and joining the two parts with a portion of the spider between the two parts. The spider may be formed from a thin film thermoplastic, such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK), and may be less than 10 microns thick. The portion of the spider that is between the two parts may be shaped such that a portion of the two parts are in direct contact with one another.
Abstract:
An audio speaker having a suspension system including a surround to support a diaphragm within a frame and to reduce non-pistonic motion of the diaphragm at several resonant frequencies is disclosed. More particularly, embodiments of the surround include a film that undulates in a peripheral direction around the diaphragm and includes several undulations above and below a radial gap between the diaphragm and the frame. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
An acoustic module, such as a microphone or speaker module, includes an acoustic membrane that vibrates to produce acoustic waves and an acoustic cavity through which acoustic waves produced by the membrane travel. A liquid removal mechanism removes liquid from the acoustic cavity. Such a liquid removal mechanism may include the acoustic membrane, heating elements, hydrophobic and/or hydrophilic surfaces, and so on. In some cases, the liquid removal mechanism may remove liquid from the acoustic cavity upon connection of the acoustic module and/or an associated electronic device to an external power source.
Abstract:
A speaker assembly includes an enclosure having an acoustic chamber and an acoustic output opening and a speaker driver. The speaker driver includes a sound radiating surface and a first voice coil and a second voice coil positioned along opposite faces, respectively, of the sound radiating surface. The speaker driver further includes a first magnet assembly including an elongated gap in which part of the first voice coil is positioned to vibrate and a second magnet assembly having an elongated gap in which part of the second voice coil is positioned to vibrate. The first magnet assembly elongated gap is orientated lengthwise toward the acoustic chamber, and the second magnet assembly elongated gap is oriented lengthwise toward the acoustic output opening. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
A waterproof speaker module may include a membrane formed from at least one waterproof and elastic material and a supporting structure. The membrane may include an outer surface, an inner surface, and at least one concave region that is indented toward the inner surface. The supporting structure may be coupled to the membrane and include a support structure that mates with the concave region of the membrane when the speaker is subjected to a hydrostatic load. When the speaker is not subjected to a hydrostatic load, the support structure may contact the concave region. In this way, the membrane may be resistant to tearing or rupture due to hydrostatic load.
Abstract:
An optical module for a display system includes a lens, a display screen, a movement mechanism, and one or more pressure-relieving features. The display screen cooperatively defines a chamber with the lens. The lens and the display screen are moved relative to each other by the movement mechanism. The one or more pressure-relieving features are in fluid communication with the chamber to hinder pressure in the chamber as the lens and the display are moved relative to each other.
Abstract:
A speaker assembly including a sound radiating surface suspended over a magnet assembly, a suspension member for suspending the sound radiating surface over the magnet assembly, a voice coil extending from a bottom side of the sound radiating surface, and a capacitive displacement sensor for sensing a movement of the sound radiating surface. The capacitive displacement sensor including a first conductive plate fixedly positioned over the sound radiating surface and a second conductive plate coupled to the sound radiating surface and vertically aligned with the first conductive plate, and wherein the second conductive plate is confined to an area that is entirely radially inward of the voice coil.
Abstract:
An electronic device is disclosed that includes one or more sealed audio modules that are unaffected by changes in the internal pressure within the electronic device. The audio modules can also include one or more features that increase the audible bandwidth of the electronic device.
