Abstract: A vertically disposed press having two spaced apart vertical legs and also having a horizontal work support bed between the legs which is adjustable vertically so as to support a work piece beneath a hydraulic press carried by the frame. The bed is mounted in cantilever fashion by means of rollers at one end which ride up and down on opposite sides of one of the vertical legs. When the bed has been positioned at the proper elevation, it is easily locked in place to both of the legs for securely supporting the work piece in position. The press also includes a hydraulic cylinder connected by a tension member to one end of the bed and by means of which the bed can be easily and quickly adjusted in a vertical position along the vertical legs.

Abstract: A system for tightening a threaded fastener with a hydraulic wrench has a pumping unit which measures parameters representative of the torque applied to the fastener and the angle of advance of the fastener, remote from the wrench. The pump measures pressure as a parameter representative of torque and measures flow rate, pump speed (for a fixed displacement pump), or time (for a fixed displacement pump driven at constant speed) as a parameter representative of the angle of advance of the fastener. A ratchet-type hydraulic wrench is used, and the pressure versus angle data produced in tightening a fastener is manipulated to discard irrelevant portions and smooth relevant portions to provide data representative of torque and angle during the tightening process from which to determine a final stopping parameter for terminating tightening. The system also has a calibration fixture for determining the volumetric rate of angle advance for a given wrench. Any tightening methodology dependent upon angle may be used to practice the invention, or the invention may be applied to monitor the tightening process.

Abstract: FLUID OPERATED HYDRAULIC PUMP INCLUDING NOISE REDUCTION MEANS A fluid operated hydraulic pump of the type using air pressure to produce high pressure hydraulic fluid wherein an air pressure driven motor and a hydraulic pump are positioned in adjacent axially aligned relationship and the air motor includes a reciprocating piston which drives the hydraulic pump. The air motor includes an exhaust passage having an expansion chamber therein for receiving exhaust air flow and including a plurality of baffles therein, the expansion chamber and the baffles functioning in combination to reduce the noise generated by the air motor without the use of other muffling material thereby avoiding undue back pressure in the air motor and increasing the speed and efficiency and operation of the air motor and the pump.

Movement of the shuttle valve to a position permitting air to be exhausted from the air motor chamber also facilitates movement of the reciprocable check valve to a position wherein it prevents air flow into the motor.

Abstract: A hydraulic fluid reservoir (10) contains an extensible bladder (50) which h as its exterior (54) exposed to the fluid and its interi or (52) vented to the exterior of the reservoir. The interior (52) of the blad der (50) is sealed from the hydraulic fluid in the reser voir (10). Depletion of the fluid from the reservoir (10) results in distension of the bladder (50) and replenihsing the fluid to the reservoir collapses the bladder (50). The bladder (50) is pleated and a tie-rod (18) which holds the reservoir (10) together extends through the bladder (50).
