    Abstract: A gear shift connecting apparatus (70) of the type operable to latch and release a gear shift rod (24) of a tiltable tractor cab (12) to a chassis portion (14) of the tractor. The gear shift connection apparatus includes a housing (32) operably connected to the tractor chassis and a connection member (26) fashioned on the lowermost portion of the gear shift rod. A hydraulically actuated connecting/release assembly (76) is mounted within the housing and includes a cylindrical cup (32) operable to receive the connection portion (26) of the gear shift rod. In a connection mode spherical locking members (92) carried by a cylindrical sleeve (84) radially engage a connection portion (30) of the gear shift rod (24). A locking/disabling sleeve (106) is telescopically mounted about the cylindrical sleeve and is biased in a posture to retain the spherical locking members. The locking members are then cammed out of engagement with the gear shift rod to permit the gear shift rod to be separated from the housing and tractor chassis.

    Abstract: A hydraulically actuated locking device for a tilt cab vehicle having a latch pin rigidly connected to the cab or chassis and a latch assembly mounted on the chassis or cab. The latch assembly including a hook member positioned to engage the latch pin and a cam plate pivotally connected to the hook member, the cam plate having cam surfaces for initially providing linear and subsequently angular movement of the hook member to disengage the hook member from the latch pin, the movements of the cam plate being produced by a hydraulic ram which is positioned to engage the cam plate at a point offset from its pivot axis. The latch assembly also including a spring for cushioning shock loads on the cab, the hydraulic ram can be modified to provide a fluid pressure cushion on return motion of the cab.

    Abstract: A truck has a cab tiltable between full-down and full-tilt positions by means of double-acting hydraulic lift cylinders. The double-acting cylinder and the control system therefor, which includes a manually, electrically or air driven pump and a manually operable selector valve, enables the cab to be positively moved from full-down to overcenter position whereupon the cab then slowly descends under the force of gravity to full-tilt position. Furthermore, it enables the cab to be positively moved from full-tilt position to overcenter position whereupon the cab then slowly descends under the force of gravity to full-down position. Each cylinder is provided with two integrally mounted velocity fuses as a safety feature. In the event of a hydraulic system failure, one fuse prevents free-fall movement of the cab when the cab is in any position between full-down and overcenter position. In one embodiment of the invention, both fuses are located in the lower end of the cylinder. In another embodiment, the fuses are located at opposite ends of the cylinder.
