Abstract: A catalyst composition for polymerizing olefinic monomers comprising a metal complex of formula (I)

Cy represents a ligand that is bonded to M and has an optionally substituted cyclopentadienyl unit,
M is a group 4 metal,
Z is an anionic ligand,
p is 1 or 2, and
L is an amidinate ligand of the formula (II)
wherein L is covalently bonded to M via the imine nitrogen atom and Sub1 represents either an aliphatic and cyclic or an aromatic substituent and Sub2 has the formula (III)
wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from acyclic saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon residues and wherein the hydrocarbon chain of R1 or R2 may be interrupted by one or more oxygen atoms or nitrogen atoms. Also provided are a process of making polymers using the composition and the polymers obtained.
