    Abstract: 1,263,490. Extruding. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 1 July, 1969 [2 July, 1968], No. 33075/69. Heading B3P. A hydrostatic extrusion apparatus comprising a pressure chamber 3, a plunger 12 and an operating cylinder 2 has a position indicator 30 for the plunger, a pressure indicator 28 for the cylinder and a calculator 34 to receive signals from the indicators and to sense when the extrusion starts and to interrupt the extrusion when the billet is almost completely extruded. The calculator is calibrated using a billet of known volume and with no billet in the pressure chamber. During operation the signals from the indicators are compared in the calculator with the calibrated values. The calculator may be digital or analogue and control one or more presses. The extrusion pressure fluid for the cylinder 2 is supplied through a solenoid valve 21. In operation the start of the extrusion (S 1 ), Fig. I (not shown), is signalled to the calculator which calculates the distance the plunger 12 is allowed to travel into the chamber 3. The valve is moved to either interrupt the pressure supply or to unload the cylinder 2 to allow the plunger to recoil.

    Abstract: 1375595 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 29 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 14709/72 Heading B3P The complete extrusion of a billet 11 during a hydrostatic extrusion process is prevented by using a billet 11 having a rear end a harder than the remainder of the billet b and initiating a warning and/or discontinuing the process when the extrusion pressure rises which occurs when the rear billet end a reaches the extrusion die 2. The billet 11, e.g. of steel or copper alloy, having an annealed front part b and a rear part a hardened by a high frequency unit, is hydrostatically extruded through the die 2 by pressurizing castor oil in a pressure chamber 10 by means of a plunger 3. The pressure increase in the chamber 10 when the hard rear end a of the billet 11 reaches the die 2 is sensed by a sensing member communicating with the operating cylinder of the plunger 3. A visible or audible signal is initiated by the sensing member or the process is automatically discontinued when the pressure reaches a predetermined level. Seals 4, 5 are positioned between the cylinder wall and the plunger 3 and die 2.
