Abstract: A press for hydrostatic extrusion includes a press stand and a high pressure cylinder displaceable in the stand. A punch is mounted for movement into the high pressure cylinder to produce the extrusion pressure therein. The billet and die are positioned by a manipulating arrangement between the open end of the high pressure cylinder and a die support, and the cylinder is moved over the billet and die. Pressure fluid is then introduced through the die support and die into the pressure chamber, flow of the fluid out of the chamber being prevented by a valve arrangement or by seating of the billet against the die. The punch is then advanced into the pressure cylinder to produce extrusion.

Abstract: A press for the hydrostatic extrusion of long billets has a stand with a pressure generating chamber and a pressure generating plunger insertable in the pressure generating chamber to generate high pressure in a pressure medium contained therein. A pressure chamber is arranged in line and communicates with the pressure generating chamber. A stationary support table is provided to take up axial forces on a die, and is spaced from the opening of the pressure chamber so that a die can be inserted into alignment with the opening of the pressure chamber. The support table contains a piston which is movable in the direction of the pressure chamber and on which the die support is carried for movement of the die into the opening of the pressure chamber opening.

Abstract: 1,250,817. Isostatic pressing apparatus. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 10 March, 1969 [11 March, 1968], No. 12426/69. Heading B5A. Apparatus for subjecting articles to high fluid pressures, e.g. isostatic pressing of hard metal products, electrical heating elements with sheaths and electrodes comprises a high pressure cylinder 2, end closure members 8, 26, means 19 and 21 for supplying two high pressure fluids to the cylinder, and means 1 for taking up the axial forces exerted on the closure members wherein one closure member 8 comprises a unit 14 which extends into the cylinder and at least one elastomeric wall 15 or displaceable wall which separates the two pressure media. The high pressure cylinder comprises a tube 3 with reinforcing sheath 4 and casing 7 held in place by support rings 5 and locking rings 6. The upper closure member 26 has a sealing ring 27 in contact with the tube 3 and an air bleed passage 35. Lower end closure 8 is suspended in the lower support ring 5 by ring 9, springs 10 and bolts 11 and carries a tubular part 14. An elastomeric bag 15 is suspended in the tubular part 14 and a perforated plate 17 is inserted in the locking ring 16 which holds the elastomeric bag 15 in place. Channel 19 is used for supply of pressure material which may contact the article 34 to the body of the cylinder. The pressure producing fluid is forced through passage 21 into the space 22 between tubular part 14 and the elastomeric bag 15 and transmits pressure through the bag to the pressing fluid. Perforated plate 17 keeps the article 34 out of contact with the elastomeric bag. The yokes 1 of a press stand maintain the closure members in the tube when pressure fluid is applied. In an alternative embodiment the elastomeric bag 15 is replaced by a piston sliding in tubular part 14.

Abstract: Apparatus for manufacturing powder, especially metallic powder, by a melt atomization process, comprises a closed container in which a jet of gas is directed transversely into a stream of the melt and breaks it down into droplets which rapidly solidify and are thrown in a parabolic trajectory to the lower part of the container. In the lower part of the container there is an inclined bottom or a shaking table on which the powder flows to an outlet opening. Means are provided for withdrawing gas from the container, cooling it and re-introducing it into the lower part of the container where it is forced by guide means to flow in contact with the powder flowing to the outlet opening. The flow direction of this re-introduced gas is substantially opposite to the direction of flow of the powder to the outlet opening, so that it has an efficient cooling effect on the powder.
