    Abstract: The retainer rod comprises a cylindrical rigid rod portion (30), and a flexible flag sheet (32) softer than, and unitary with, the cylindrical rod portion and lying in a plane extending radially from the cylindrical rod portion. The flexible flag sheet is stitchable to the airbag (24). The rod portion has a Rockwell hardness on the R scale of about 100 to about 115. The flag has a Shore A hardness of about 50 to about 100.

    Abstract: An airbag module assembly and a method for tuning the inflation performance characteristics of such a module which contains a hot gas-producing inflator (110) by placing and housing a selected quantity of a gas cooling medium (140) housed within an inflator housing (122) external to the inflator (110) and in discharge communication therewith whereby hot gas discharged from the inflator (110) contacts the gas cooling medium (140) to form an inflation gas at a reduced second temperature, where the second temperature is substantially less than the first temperature.
