    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved technology relating to presence-aware telephone networks. SOLUTION: The presence-aware communications system includes a messaging system configured to perform at least one of the following operations of: (a) providing a subscriber's communication device with information relating to an incoming contact during a messaging session; (b) providing the communication device with one or more messages when receiving a notification that the subscriber's communication device is available; (c) providing the communication device with a voice message from a different first party received by the massaging system; (d) in response to a request for connection from the subscriber's communication device, providing the communication device with a message from a second party related to an inputted telephone number and address; and (e) while a contact between the subscriber and a different third party is in progress, providing the communication device with an eligible message from the third party.     Abstract: The present invention is directed generally to telephony networks and specifically to presence-aware telephony networks. One aspect of the invention provides a method for providing a subscriber with information regarding one or more eligible messages, comprising: receiving, from a subscriber, at least one of an address and telephone number associated with a communication device of a party to be contacted; providing the at least one of an address and telephone number to a messaging system; receiving a response from the messaging system; when the response indicates that at leas t one eligible message exists from the party to be contacted, notifying the subscriber of the at least one eligible message before the contact is made with the contacted party's communication device; and when the response indicates that no eligible messa ge exists from the contacted party's communication device, permitting the contact to b e made with the contacted party's communication device.
