    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly pass a paper to be scanned by providing a preceding blade and a following blade consisting of an upper part and a lower part, inclining them toward a scanning window, and separating them from the scanning window. SOLUTION: The body part 88 of a scanner contains a flat bed window 24 and an image sensor 22 for detecting the light reflected by a scanned paper. A scanning part F or part 99 is a paper guide part for automatically feeding a paper to be scanned to the scanner. The effective scanning part F is determined by the other scanning window 25 made of a resistant transparent material. One paper P has an upper surface 21U and a lower surface having a following blade (left blade) 21L inclined on two sides of the scanning window 25 and a preceding blade (right blade) 21R. The lower end of the blade 211 forms a step in the scanning window, and the preceding right blade 21R forms a coplanar connection with the scanning window 25. According to this, a smooth passage for paper is formed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a book scanner for enhancing edge parts of a scanned document.
    SOLUTION: The book scanner is for scanning a book having first and second inner surfaces and a ridge. The scanner includes a transparent platen for supporting the first inner surface, a housing, and a scanning module. The housing has a housing platen for supporting the second inner surface, and the housing and transparent platen are connected to define a first angle smaller than 180 degrees. The module includes a lighting device having first and second sections. The two sections define a second angle smaller than 180 degrees. The bent second section may provide extra light rays to compensate the brightness and thus enhance the edge image quality.

    Abstract: An automatic paper feeder uses a paper guide with two separate lower blades for feeding the paper past a scan window. The separate blades provide smooth passage of the paper over the scan window and avoiding rubbing the scan window surface. When the paper feeding mechanism is used both for automatic paper feeding scanning and for flat-fed scanning, the image sensor position is changed for the two applications, because the former scan window lies over the larger scan window for flat bed scanning and the elevations of the scanned papers for the two situations are different. The vertical position of the image sensor can be changed to maintain equal distance between the scan surface and the image sensor.

    Abstract: A light beam folding device has at least two reflecting mirrors 3, 4 parallel to one another on the same mirror mount 12. The mirrors 3, 4 can move in synchrony by means of a special mirror mount adjustor 35 so that the reflection angle for each light beam can be adjusted simultaneously, thereby increasing the efficiency and precision of the assembly. The mirror mount 12 is secured to a structural frame 11 by parts 15, 16, 36, the angle of the mirror mount 12 being adjustable by threaded fastener 35 and lever 16.
