Abstract: According to the present invention a method is disclosed for making a negative-working, heat-sensitive printing plate precursor capable of switching from a hydrophilic state into a hydrophobic state upon exposure to heat and/or infrared light, comprising the steps of (i) providing a support having a surface comprising titanium, (ii) modifying said surface by producing an oxide of titanium following the steps of (1) etching said support and (2) anodizing said etched support.
