    Abstract: Embodiments provide beamforming apparatuses, methods and a computer programs for a base station transceiver and a mobile transceiver. An apparatus (10) operable in a base station transceiver (100) of a mobile communication system comprises a transceiver module (12) comprising interfaces to a plurality (15) of antennas. The transceiver module (12) is operable to subdivide the plurality (15) of antennas in a plurality of subgroups using the interfaces, and to form a first beam pattern (16) using one or more antennas of a subgroup. The apparatus (10) further comprises a control module (14), which is operable to transmit a synchronization signal using the transceiver module (12) and the first beam pattern (16). The control module (14) is further operable to receive a response signal after transmission of the synchronization signal from a mobile transceiver (200) using the transceiver module (12), to determine a second beam pattern (18) based on the response signal from the mobile transceiver (200). The second beam pattern (18) has a higher antenna gain than the first beam pattern (16), and to transmit a signal to the mobile transceiver (200) using the second beam pattern (18) and the transceiver module (12). An apparatus (20) operable in a mobile transceiver (200) of a mobile communication system comprises a transceiver module (22) comprising interfaces to a plurality of antennas (25), and a control module (24) operable to determine a first set of beam patterns (26) based on the plurality of antennas (25), to receive a signal from a base station transceiver (100) using a first beam pattern from the first set of beam patterns (26) using the transceiver module (22). The control module (24) is further operable to determine a second set of beam patterns (28) based on the plurality of antennas (25), the second set of beam patterns (28) comprising more beam patterns than the first set of beam patterns (26), and to transmit a signal to the base station transceiver (100) using a second beam pattern from the set of second beam patterns (28) and using the transceiver module (22).

    Abstract: The embodiments of the invention relate to a transmitter method for supporting a determination of a set of beamforming weights by a receiver method. The transmitter method contains the steps of allocating a predefined reference signal (REF-SIG-1a, REF-SIG-2a) to at least one group of radio resource units (RRU-G1a, RRU-G2a) of a transmission channel between a first antenna array and a second antenna array,and transmitting said predefined reference signal (REF-SIG-1a, REF-SIG-2a) via the transmission channel from the first antenna array to the second antenna array. The embodiments of the invention further relate to a receiver method for a determination of a set of beamforming weights. The receiver method contains the steps of receiving at a first antenna element of a second antenna array and at least one further antenna element of the second antenna array via a transmission channel from a first antenna array a predefined reference signal (REF-SIG-1a, REF-SIG-2a) allocated to at least one group of radio resource units (RRU-G1a, RRU-G2a) of the transmission channel, determining based on the received predefined reference signal (REF-SIG-1a, REF-SIG-2a) a first channel estimation of the transmission channel for the first antenna element and at least one further channel estimation of the transmission channel for the at least one further antenna element, and determining the set of beamforming weights for a transmission from the second antenna array and/or a reception at the second antenna array based on the first channel estimation and the at least one further channel estimation. The embodiments of the invention even further relate to a transmitter apparatus, a receiver apparatus and a network node, which contains a transmitter apparatus and a receiver apparatus.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to measurement in radio communication systems. In particular, the present invention relates to a sounding method in a cellular wireless communication system, the communication system itself and its components like base stations and mobile stations. The radio communication system (1) comprises at least one mobile station (2) and at least two base stations (3, 4). One of said base stations is a serving base station (3) for the mobile station (2) and the at least one further base station is a neighboring base station (4) of the serving base station (3). The serving base station (3) is adapted to generate a schedule for measurement signals and to transmit said schedule to the mobile station (2) and to the neighboring base station (4). The mobile station (2) is adapted to transmit measurement signals in accordance with said schedule to the serving base station (3) and to the neighboring base station (4). Furthermore, the neighboring base station (4) is adapted to calculate a mean channel state for the uplink channel from the mobile station (2) to itself (4) and to transmit said mean channel state to at least one further base station of the radio communication system (1), so that said base station can be provided with channel estimations for uplink channels between the mobile station (2) and all base stations within a certain area surrounding itself.
