Abstract:
Polypropylene impact copolymer compositions are provided which contain a homopolymer phase of predominantly homopolymeric polypropylene, a copolymer phase of copolymerized ethylene and propylene, and a nucleating agent. The inventive compositions have a rubber content (Fc) in the range of 25 to 45% by weight, a crystallization temperature in the range of 122.degree. to 132.degree. C., a melt flow in the range of about 7 to about 60 dg/min, and a ratio of the intrinsic viscosity of the copolymer phase to the intrinsic viscosity of the homopolymer phase of 1.4 to about 1.9. The polypropylene impact copolymer compositions may be used to form cast films which preferably are soft, quiet, and suitable for use in products to be used next to the skin, such as diapers, adult incontinence pads and feminine hygiene products.

Abstract:
The present invention includes:(i) a method for making a coated particulate comprising the steps offorming a polyolefin emulsion or dispersion;fluidizing additive particles;spraying the emulsion or dispersion on the fluidized additive particles; andforming discrete substantially coated additive particles;(ii) a coated particulate made by the above process; and(iii) a process for providing in-reactor stabilization of a polyolefin during a polymerization reaction using the coated additives prepared by the above described method.
Abstract:
The crystallization from the melt of an elastomeric stereo-regular butene-1 polymer composition is promoted by adding a small amount of a nucleating agent selected from the group consisting of stearamide; N,N'-ethylene-bis-stearamide; 1-napthalene acetamide; benzamide; low molecular weight high density polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene.
Abstract:
The present invention is an improved method for stabilizing acetal copolymers by hydrolyzing the copolymer product in a low energy reaction process wherein undesirable side products are continuously and efficiently removed by melting and extruding the unhydrolyzed oxymethylene copolymer into a hydrolysis reaction zone in which the necessary reactants are intimately contacted with the copolymer, preferably by means of flow division and rearrangement mixing technique. Subsequently, the hydrolyzed copolymer product is devolatilized to remove the unwanted side products by passing it through a devolatilization zone preferably having more than one devolatilization port and a vacuum source from which negative pressure is available for application to the devolatilization ports so that the undesired products may be effectively removed.
Abstract:
The crystallization from the melt of an isotactic butene-1 homopolymer composition or isotactic butene-1-ethylene copolymer composition is promoted by adding a small amount of a nucleating agent selected from the group consisting of N,N'-ethylene-bis-stearamide and stearamide.
Abstract:
Compacted additive blends, or polymer stabilization agent blends, can be added during the post-polymerization process to enhance the processability performance of polymers. The addition of certain compaction aids, such as high melting or non-melting metallic silicates and others, increases the resistance to friability of the compacted additive pellets. These compaction aids are non-migratory during the compaction process and after introduction into the polymer resin and thus have no deleterious effects. The additive blend can contain a variety of suitable additives in addition to the compaction aids.
Abstract:
Polypropylene random copolymer resins and metallized, heat sealable cast films produced from such resins include (1) a polypropylene-.alpha.-olefin random copolymer such as a propylene-butene-1 or propylene-ethylene random copolymer and (2) an additive package including a synthetic amorphous silica, a hindered phenolic antioxidant, a processing stabilizer and an acid acceptor. The compositions according to the invention are useful for the preparation of metallized, heat sealable packaging films suitable for protecting goods, particularly goods requiring a long shelf life such as foods or semiconductor products.
Abstract:
Polymer compositions comprising .alpha.-olefin polymers and a minor proportion of synthetic basic zeolite are stabilized against the harmful effects of corrosion of metal surfaces when processed through mechanical equipment such as molds and extruders where the composition normally contacts metal surfaces.
