Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a system and method for providing an output for an electronic device. In certain embodiments, an alert is output in accordance with a current alert mode, which are selected based on one or more environmental conditions. The environmental conditions may be detected using one or more environmental sensors. The alert can optionally include one or more of: an audio component, a haptic component and a visual component. Abstract: An electronic device detects a gesture on a touch-sensitive surface. In response to detecting the gesture on the touch-sensitive surface, when the gesture is a first swipe gesture in a first direction, the device displays at least a list of recent electronic notifications. When the gesture is a second swipe gesture in a second direction distinct from the first direction, the device displays one or more settings icons in a settings panel, wherein the settings panel includes a respective settings icon that, when selected, causes a partially transparent interface to be displayed over the settings panel, wherein the partially transparent interface is at least partially transparent so that at least a portion of the settings panel can be seen through the partially transparent user interface.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for creating a new appointment for an electronic calendar. The method receives a set of proposed attendees for the new appointment. The method retrieves and analyzes calendars of the proposed attendees. The method proposes a time for the new appointment at which all proposed attendees, including an organizer of the appointment, are available to attend the new appointment. In some embodiments, the proposed time is an earliest future time at which all proposed attendees are available to attend the new appointment. In some embodiments, the method also proposes a second time for the new appointment at which a subset of the proposed attendees are available to attend the new appointment.
