Improved techniques and systems for storage, delivery and acquisition of digital assets stored in cloud data storage. Cloud data storage can be provided by a cloud data repository that is capable of storing digital data for various users. A given user can access cloud data storage from any of his/her authorized client devices via a network. A given client device can access not only locally stored digital assets but also remotely stored digital assets from cloud data storage. In one embodiment, downloads of digital assets resident in cloud data storage to client devices can be managed in view of available network performance. As one example, digital assets of differing quality levels can be downloaded in a manner dependent on network performance. As another example, locally stored digital assets of reduced quality can be upgraded (e.g., replaced) by higher quality versions in a manner dependent on network performance.

Methods, systems and apparatus that facilitate activation of mobile devices, such as communication devices or multi-function devices, via a computer are disclosed. According to one aspect of the invention, a mobile device can be forced into a limited service mode until properly activated with a service provider for a wireless network. According to another aspect of the invention, a mobile device can defer its attempt to send a location update request to a wireless network. According to still another aspect of the invention, a mobile device can be automatically controlled to reset a portion of its internal hardware to initiate a location update request.

A computer-implemented method (300) for automatically updating a playlist of media items on a media play system, wherein the playlist has at least one playlist condition associated therewith, each playlist condition specifying a condition that is used to determine whether a media item is to be added to, removed from or altered in the playlist said method comprising: determining (302) whether any of the media content available to the media play system has been altered, said media content comprising the media items and media information about one or more of the media items; and when said determining step determines that the media content available to the media play system has been altered, automatically regenerating (308) the playlist by deleting media items from the playlist said regenerating operates to regenerate the playlist using the at least one playlist condition so that the regenerated playlist corresponds to how the media content has been altered.
