Abstract: A polymer composition with improved scratch and mar resistance contains (1) a graft copolymer comprising a backbone of a propylene polymer material having graft polymerized thereto at least one vinyl monomer capable of being polymerized by free radicals, and (2) an additive selected from the group consisting of (a) about 0.5% to about 10% of at least one low molecular weight ethylene polymer or a functionalized derivative thereof, and (b) a combination of (i) about 0.5% to about 10% of at least one of the low molecular weight ethylene polymers in (a) and (ii) about 0.5% to about 10% of inorganic microspheres, based on the total weight of the composition. Optionally the composition can also contain a compatibilizing agent such as an unsaturated carboxylic acid-functionalized propylene polymer material. The composition can optionally contain about 2% to about 30% of one or more rubber components, about 15% to about 50% of a broad molecular weight distribution propylene polymer material, or a combination of the two.

Abstract: Directly paintable polymer compositions contain (1) a thermoplastic olefin, (2) a propylene homopolymer or propylene copolymer with ethylene or a 4-8 C alpha-olefin, grafted with an anhydride of an aliphatic alpha , beta -unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, (3) an oxidized polyethylene wax having a melting point of less than 116 DEG C and an acid number of less than 40, (4) a functionalized polymer that reacts with the anhydride groups of the grafted polymers, and, optionally, (5) a polyolefin rubber grafted with an anhydride of an aliphatic alpha , beta -unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and (6) an ethylene polymer grafted with an anhydride of an aliphatic alpha , beta -unsaturated dicarboxylic acid. The compositions are particularly useful for making injection molded parts such as automobile bumpers, and exhibit excellent paint adhesion and durability.

Abstract: A propylene polymer composition comprising the following components: a) from 50% to 90% by weight of a propylene homopolymer or a propylene copolymer containing up to 5% by mol of derived units of C2-C20 alpha-olefins, having the following features: (i) a polydispersity index PI>3; (ii) melt flow r ate (MFR), as measured at 230~C under a load of 2.16 kg, MFR>1 dg/min; and (i ii) fraction soluble in xylene at 25~C (XSRT)>1% b) from 5% to 25% by weight a copolymer of ethylene and one or more derived units of C4-C20 alpha-olefins having the following features: (i) content of ethylene derived units higher than 50% by mol and lower than 92% by mol; (ii) intrinsic viscosity (IV) higher than 1.2 dL/g and lower than 6 dL/g; (iii) density ranging from 0.850 to 0.890 g/cm3; and (iv) a crystallinity content, expressed as the enthalpy of fusion, lower than 62 J/g c) from 5% to 25% by weight of a copolymer of propylene and ethylene having the following features: (i) content of propyle ne derived units higher than 50% by mol and lower than 92% by mol; (ii) intrins ic viscosity (IV) higher than 2 dL/g and lower than 6 dL/g; (iii) density rangi ng from 0.850 to 0.890 g/cm3; (iv) the value of the product of reactivity ratio s rlxr2 lower than 2; and (v) a crystallinity content, expressed as the enthal py of fusion, lower than 45 J/g wherein the weight ratio between the ethylene copolymer (component b) and the sum of component b) and component c) is equa l to or higher than 0.5 and less than or equal to 0.9.
