Abstract: A polymer blend containing (1) about 1% to about 98% of a graft copolymer comprising a backbone of a propylene polymer material having graft polymerized thereto monomers selected from (a) at least one vinyl aromatic compound and an unsaturated carboxylic acid and b) at least one vinyl aromatic compound and an anhydride of an unsaturated acid or its acid form, wherein the polymerized monomers are present in an amount of about 10 to about 95 parts per hundred parts of the propylene polymer material, (2) about 99% to about 2% of at least one polyamide resin, and (3) about 5% to about 90% of a broad molecular weight distribution propylene polymer material. The composition optionally also contains about 2% to about 30% of one or more rubber components, and an additive to improve the scratch and mar resistance of the composition.

Abstract: Se prepara una mezcla compatible de un termoplástico para ingeniería tal como una poliamida y un material de polímero de olefina (1) elaborando un material de polímero de olefina oxidado que contiene grupos de ácidos carboxílicos o derivados de los mismos, (2) extruyendo una mezcla de (a) el material de polímero de olefina oxidado del paso (1), (b) un termoplástico para ingeniería, (c) opcionalmente, una base inorgánico y (d) opcionalmente, un material de polímero de olefina no oxidado, y (3) recuperando una mezcla del termoplástico para ingeniería, el material de polímero de olefina oxidado o un ionómero del mismo, que actúa como un compatibilizante, y opcionalmente, el material de polímero de olefina no oxidado. El material de polímero de olefina oxidado puede ser preparado tratando al material de polímero de olefina con un iniciador de peróxido orgánico mientras se agrega una cantidad controlada de oxígeno. Reivindicación 1: Una composición caracterizada porque comprende: un material de polímero de olefina oxidado que contiene grupos de ácido carboxílico o derivados del mismo, o un ionómero del mismo; un termoplástico para ingeniería, y opcionalmente; un material de polímero de olefina no oxidado.

Abstract: A compatible blend of an engineering thermoplastic such as a polyamide and an olefin polymer material is prepared by (1) making an oxidized olefin polymer material containing carboxylic acid groups or derivatives thereof, (2) extruding a mixture of (a) the oxidized olefin polymer material from step (1), (b) an engineering thermoplastic, (c) optionally, an inorganic base, and (d) optionally, a non-oxidized olefin polymer material, and (3) recovering a blend of the engineering thermoplastic, the oxidized olefin polymer material or an ionomer thereof, which acts as a compatibilizer, and, optionally, the non-oxidized olefin polymer material. The oxidized olefin polymer material can be made by treating the olefin polymer material with an organic peroxide initiator while adding a controlled amount of oxygen.

Abstract: A three-layer, co-extruded tube has (1) an inner polyamide layer, (2) a middle layer made from (a) a modified polylefin, (b) a broad molecular weight distribution propylene polymer material, (c) a graft copolymer made from a backbone of propylene polymer material to which is grafted a methyl methacrylate/methyl acrylate copolymer or a methyl methacrylate/methacrylic acid copolymer, and (d) an olefin copolymer rubber, and (3) an outer layer made from (a) a broad molecular weight distributation propylene polymer material, (b) a graft copolymer made from a backbone of propylene polymer material to which is grafted a methyl methacrylate/methyl acrylate copolymer or a methyl methacrylate/methacrylic acid copolymer, and (c) an olefin copolymer rubber. The tubing is suitable for fuel systems, high pressure tubing, and other tubing for automotive applications.
