Abstract: 1412203 Emulsion polymerization BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 23 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8941/73 Heading C3P The emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers is effected using as emulsifier a sulphonium salt of the formula in which X is hydrogen or methyl and R 1 to R 3 are #-hydroxyalkyl, alkyl or aralkyl groups containing a total of 10-25 carbons provided at least one is #-hydroxyalkyl, or an oxidation product of such a sulphonium salt. In examples the following monomers are copolymerized (1) vinylidene chloride/ethyl acrylate, (2) nbutyl acrylate / acrylonitrile / styrene / N,N- dimethyl aminoethyl acrylate (in sulphuric acid) and (3) vinylidene chloride/n-butyl acrylate / N - vinyl - N - methylimidazolium methosulphate.
