Abstract: The dispersions contain, calc. on (a+b+c): (a) 10-50% finely divided pigment; (b) 2-20% water-soluble surfactant obtd. by reacting condensates of formula (I): (where R1 and R2 are H or satd. 1-14C alkyl; R3 is H, OH or when R1 or R2 is H, 2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-propyl-(2); R4 is H or 1-6C alkyl; Z is 1-9) with mols. ethylene oxide per equiv. phenolic OH gp. and opt. reacting further with up n/2 mol. propylene oxide per equiv. phenolic OH gp. or with 1 mol. maleic anhydride or glutaric anhydride per equiv. per OH gp. (where n is 3-40); (c) 30-88% water or a mixture of water and a water retention agent. Used for pigmenting aq. lacquers or lacquers which can be diluted with water without affecting the subsequent coatings, e.g. stoving lacquers based on water-soluble acrylate/melamine resins.
